Joseph Ervin Watts was born on August 31, 1934, in Los Angeles, California. He was the fifth child of seven born to the union of Theodore and Lucille (Scott) Watts. Joseph became affectionally known as âMooneyâ by his family and friends.

He was educated in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He furthered his education by attending Cal State Los Angeles where he learned the craft of his profession.

Joseph accepted Christ at an early age.  Later in life Mooney met and married Jewel Poole on October 27, 1956. To this union one daughter was born, Cynthia Rochelle.

Joseph worked over 40 years in the entertainment industry on a number of movie and television shows as a Costume Designer.  Among the shows he worked on were: Love Boat, Amen, Webster, and Family Matters. He retired in 1998 from the industry at the conclusion of the 9 year run of Family Matters. Mooney enjoyed telling jokes, playing cards and dominoes.

He leaves to cherish his memory Jewel, his loving wife of 60 years, their only daughter Cynthia Rochelle Watts, three additional daughters: Deborah Love, Vicky Pough (R.L. Pough) and Renee Taylor; two grandchildren, Tyran Taylor and Rio Rose Ash, three great-grandchildren: Brittney Taylor, Tyra Taylor and Ava Rose Parker; and other greatchildren, one brother, Eddie Watts, one half sister, Penny Watts, four sisters-in-law: Delores (Milton) Cottom, Florence (Ulysees) Martin, Celeste Haney, and Patricia (Dennis) Brown Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
