Marvelyn Jewell Willis Hatter (Marjewell!) was born in Thomas County, Georgia on October 26, 1948 to Cora Bell Morris Willis and H.W. Willis. She was reared in Thomasville, Georgia and attended Douglas High School. Marvelyn Jewell graduated from Douglas High School in Thomasville in 1966.

Marvelyn Jewell Willis was a member of the First Born Church in Thomasville. She married Hiram Hatter, Jr. in 1968. They were married for 47 years and have lived in Los Angeles, Gardena and Phillips Ranch, California.

Marvelyn Jewell worked for the City of Los Angeles for 30 years doing numerous jobs revolving around customer services. She eventually retired while working for the Department of Water and Power as a Customer Service Representative at the Special Services desk in 1998.

Marvelyn Jewell joined Palm Lane Church of God in Christ in 1979. She was a member of the Board of Trustee, Hospitality Committee, Homeless Outreach (feeding the hungry) and the Women’s Day Choir. She was a faithful member and could often be seen doing the Lord\'s work within her church. She had been an active member for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bishop H.W. Willis and Missionary Cora Bell Willis, her brother, Willie Raiford Willis, and her sister, Eula Jean King.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband Hiram Hatter, Jr. of Pomona, CA, her daughter, Itisha Hatter-Young (Dorian) of Pomona, CA, her son, Keith Hatter of Pomona, CA; one brother, Aurelius Willis (Katherine) of Los Angeles, CA, four sisters: Annie Doris James of Columbus, GA, Ruby Watkins (Emory) of Coolidge, GA, Pastor Carol Pettis (Phillip) of Thomasville, GA and Marion Lyons of Valdosta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
