Willie McMahan Jr. was born on May 6, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas to Willie McMahan Sr. and Maryan Sikes McMahan. He was the youngest of three children. Willie received his education in the LA Unified School District, attending Carver Middle School, LA High School, Jefferson High School then furthering his education at LA City College.

Willie met Mary Aubert in High School and in 1954 they were married. To this union three children were born: Willie III âMack,â Mark and Michael. Willie joined the United States Army in 1954; he was a Corporal, and he served in Vietnam. Willie received an Honorable Discharge in 1962.

Willie worked as a Sales Representative at Brown & Williams Tobacco Co., then a Shift Supervisor for Rockwell and a History & Physical Education Teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Willie was also known as âCoach;â he attained this title in the early 70s as a result of his relationship with various young men. He mentored them in sports, education and basic life skills. Willie was someone they could count on to listen to their problems and help them steer away from trouble. Several young men went on to follow in his footsteps and are currently mentoring others as a result of their relationship with him. He coached at his alma maters, Carver Middle School and Jefferson High. He was well liked by the staff, faculty and student body. Willie was a member of the Jefferson High School Alumni Board.

In his leisure time, Willie loved to gather with the Van Nuys Traveliers, a happening and well-known travel motoring crew of individuals. He joined them in the early 80s and served as president from 2008 - 2010. They traveled extensively throughout the United States. He was preparing to meet them for an annual party when destiny changed his itinerary. His presence as a member of this fun loving group will be greatly missed.

Another favorite activity Willie enjoyed was viewing âWesternsâ or âshoot-em-upsâ as he called them. Contemporary TV shows had no appeal for him. He didnât need a reason to party, a gathering of family and friends quickly became such when he was around. He was fun-loving and had a dry sense of humor that everyone came to expect and love. He was kind and giving and always available to the extended family.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, Willie Sr. and Maryan McMahan, his brothers, Marvin and Danny, and his son, Michael McMahan.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mary, his sons: Willie III, âMackâ and Mark, three grandchildren: Natasha, Marcel, and Damien, three great-grandchildren: Malani, Malia and Ming and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
