Iris Jennifer Jones was born on September 23, 1952, in Homer, Louisiana, to the late Golden Hamilton and Elizabeth Coleman. Her family consisted of four siblings, Jesse Hamilton, Barbara Hicks, and two sisters who preceded her in death, Deloris Jones and Evelyn Diggs.

Jennifer grew up in Homer, Louisiana. In 1959, the family moved from Homer, Louisiana to Los Angeles, California.

Jennifer joined in Holy Matrimony to Stanley Jones on November 25, 1972. To this union, four children were born: Latrice, Laniece, Stanley Timothy, and Crystal. Sadly, their daughter, Laniece Nichelle, and their son Stanley Timothy preceded her in death.

Jennifer attended Carver Elementary School, Willowbrook Jr. High School, and Centennial Senior High School. She graduated from Centennial Senior High School in June of 1970. She attended California State University at Los Angeles, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1977. She then went to work as a teacher in Lynwood Unified School District. She taught first grade at Roosevelt Elementary School, in Lynwood, for 32 years. She retired as a teacher in 2009.

Jennifer first attended St. Peters AME Church at an early age. Then, she later became a member of St. Mark AME Church in Los Angeles, CA. She later worshiped at Grant AME Church, also in Los Angeles, CA.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 48 years Stanley Jones, two daughters: Latrice Jackson and Crystal Jones; two granddaughters: Stacie and Khloe; one son-in-law Damien Jackson, four sisters-in-law: Gwendolyn Stennis, Rosa Jones, Lynette Jones, and Verna Dean Hamilton; seven brothers-in-law: Harry Jones Jr., Charles Jones, Arthur Jones, Carl Jones, Jeffrey Jones, Darryl Jones, and Rudolph Stennis. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
