Verlon Denise Harris, affectionately known as \"Nise,\" was the fourth child born to the union of her dear parents, Cornelius Harris, Sr. and Deloris Harris, on November 16, 1964 in Bessemer, Alabama. When Nise was 7 months old, the Harris Family moved to Los Angeles, California and began their new life there. Shortly after that, the family joined New Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Mims Hackett. It was there that Nise accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. Nise began to serve on the Usher Board, and she sang in the choir. In the later years, under the leadership of Bishop R.A. McKinley, Nise joined the Hospitality Committee at New Pilgrim and served as a faithful member.

Nise received her education within the Los Angeles Unified School District. She attended Parmelee Elementary School, Edison Middle School, and she graduated from John C. Fremont High School In 1982.

She later went on to work for Hertz for 10 years, and she enjoyed her time there.

Nise had no children of her own, but she was a mother to many. There are many people all across the United States who love and revere her as their \"Second Mom\" to this day.

Nise was known to be a strong disciplinarian with a no-nonsense approach. It seemed the tougher she was, on the children, the more they wanted to be around her. Nise was also known to discipline a child whether she knew who their parents were or not. It did not matter; if your child was out-of-line, Nise was going to straighten them out. She was tough, but she had a soft heart for kids and people in general. If you were in need, Nise was going to be there to help you. If she couldnât help, she was going to walk with you through your process. She was a true friend and a loyal confidant. She loved laughing, enjoying life and spending time with her friends. If Nise called you âfriend,â she loved you, and you knew you were blessed. Nise was dependable and selfless. She had a giving heart, and her goal was to help those who were less fortunate than she was.

From the time her health began to fail her, as a young teen, until the second she took her last breath, Nise was a fighter. She had the tenacity and the strength of a Lion. Nothing could break her spirit, and she would let nothing slow her down...not even her sickness. Nise endured what most people would never be able to, with dignity and grace, for over 38 years. She fought a good fight like a true soldier. Nise was blessed to have a strong army of unwavering love and support around her, every step of the way. This army was her family. Nise adored her family and would do anything for them. Her family adored her as well and would cross a million oceans for her. She will always be loved and cherished as the beloved of the Harris Family.

Nise parted this life on Sunday, October 13, 2019, but her spirit lives on in all of us, never to be dismissed or forgotten. Preceding Nise in death were her parents, Cornelius Harris, Sr and Deloris Harris, her sisters, Vangela Hayes, and Gwendolyn Coleman and her niece Teanna Hayes.

Those remaining to cherish her precious memories are her brothers, Cornelius Harris, Jr and Dennis Harris; her sister Terri Lynn Luvert; her sister-in-law, Jawanna Harris; her Aunts, Jennie B. Powell, Altanett Winbush and Joanne Pettaway; her nieces, Cornisha Denise Harris, Aaryn Nicole Coleman and Natalie Marie Harris; her nephews Justin Auguste and Devin Harris; her great-nephews, Alijah Auguste, Zachary Auguste and Tyler Jeremiah Harris-Alexander; special cousins, Norman Harris and Brandon Winbush; special friends, Steve Brown, Dedrick Fields, Sheri McDonald Johnson, Dawn Bello, Laura Denise \"NeeCee\" Sims, Felicia Williams, Karen Stevens Reliford, Sharion Cousett, Michael, Gabe and Anthony. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends who were dear to her heart.

Nise, you are truly going to be missed by all of us! You fought an amazing fight. You suffered long and hard. You are our hero, and we love you. Your legacy of love, strength, power, endurance, and courage will forever be etched in the seams of our souls throughout eternity. Though we hate to see you go, we are elated that you are no longer in pain, and your suffering is finally over. Take your much-needed rest, Dear Love. We will see you again.... in the morning.
