Betty was born March 15, 1943, in Grand Cane, Louisiana and raised by a loving mother Helen who insisted on Betty growing up in a Christian home. At a very early age, Betty was baptized at Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Mansfield, Louisiana. Because of her stepfather J. E. Anderson who was in the United States Army, Betty had the opportunity to travel the U.S. as a child, and therefore she lived in several states: Louisiana, California, Florida, Virginia, and New York. Those were wonderful times that Betty always cherished, but when her stepfather received his orders to go to Germany her mother Helen drew the line and said no she and the kids would not go because she was afraid of airplanes and getting on a ship was out of the question (smile).

In 1955, Betty and her mother and little brother James moved to Los Angeles, California. Betty attended Gompers, Markham Jr. High, Jordan and Fremont High Schools.

Betty married Norris Anderson at an early age and to this union was born one son, Rafael and later Betty and Norris adopted a son Eric from the Los Angeles County Bureau of  Adoptions. Betty attended Pacific Beauty College in Huntington Park, California and upon completion, she received her Cosmetology license from the state of California. Betty owned and operated her own beauty salon on Slauson and Overhill for 41 years. While working full-time and being a wife and being a mother, Betty attended West Los Angeles Jr. College at night and received her AA Degree in 1980. After closing her salon on Slauson, she semi-retired to her home salon her career spanned over 50 years. Betty loved traveling, and she truly loved music; gospel, jazz, blues, and country western. In 1982 Betty joined Grace United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member until she was called home to be with God. While at Grace UMC, Betty served on the SPPRC (staff pastor parish relationship committee), the Hospitality Committee, the Nominations and Leadership Committee, the United Methodist Women\'s Morning Glory\'s, Worship Leader, she also served as a Greeter and a Counter for the Finance Committee. She attended and completed Disciple 1, 2, 3 & 4 classes and she was also a member of Sunday School.

Betty always had a smile on her face and a warm hello for those she met. In Betty\'s life there were very special people: husband, Norris, her mother Helen sons: Rafael and wife LaWonda, and Eric Anderson, grandchildren Ryan, and Kelli, brother Rev. James, sister Brigitte and some very dear friends: Marilyn Walker, Velma Montgomery, Josie Grant, Ricci Alford, and her ace, her pal, and best friend ever Geraldine Halthon, and last but not least a very special nephew Dion Halthon.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother Helen Anderson, husband Norris Anderson and son EricAnderson. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Rafael (LaWonda) Anderson, brother James Mitchell, sister Bridgette Maddox, and grandson Ryan Anderson, and Kelli Anderson. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friend.
