Melodie (Holden) Grimes was born September 15, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Helen Holden and Manuel Holden. She was the third of four daughters born to this union. Melodie grew up in New Orleans and graduated from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School. After high school, Melodie married and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1972. She soon became a devoted mother to Keisha and gave her a little sister, Kimberly.

Melodie spent her career in public service working for the Veterans Administration for over 30 years. Melodie had a close network of work-family which includes her life-long best friend Shirley Butler who her girls know as âAuntie Shirley.â

On May 18, 1991, Melodie was united in holy matrimony to Robert L. Grimes. Her husband was the absolute joy of her life. She loved and cherished Robert as much as his obvious love and adoration for her. Being Robert\'s wife gave Melodie a great source of pride and happiness.

Melodie was an active member of Bryant Temple A.M.E. in Los Angeles, where she served as an Usher.

On January 21, 2019, Melodie died peacefully at the age of 68 in Los Angeles, California. She will reunite in heaven with her daughter Keisha Davillier, her parents Helen and Manuel Holden, and her two sisters Grace Ann Clark, and Lonette Pritchett who all preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Robert L. Grimes, daughters: Kimberly Davillier, Angela Grimes, and Staci Grimes Farrar; grandchildren: Mercedes, Kennedy, Armani, Kassidy, Ashley, Ryann, Darryl, Christian, and Donovan; great-grandchildren: Verniece, Taliyah, Tanyia, Ashten, Ayden, and Ashlyn; and sister Judy Green. She is also survived by her best friend Shirley Butler, and host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.

Melodie will forever be remembered for her story-telling, devotion to God and Church, and the extraordinary happiness brought to her by her husband.
