Mattie Jean Hampton was born March 12, 1932, in Arkansas, to Jerry Callins and Arttie Lee Callins; she was the tenth of fifteen siblings.

Mattie was educated in the Los Angeles Unified School District; she graduated from David Starr Jordan High School in Los Angeles, California. Mattie furthered her education in Vocational Training as a nurse; she was 3rd in her class.

Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Watt\'s 103rd Street Baptist Church; she was a member for over 20 years.

Mattie met and married Johnnie Hampton, to this union three sons were born, Lonnie, Larry, and Garry. Mattie was a Seamstress by trade, and she also was employed by Broadway Hospital, working as a Nurse. Mattie was very family oriented; she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was loving, kind-hearted and very generous. She had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone in need; her doors were always open. Mattie even worried about the birds, the bees, and animals. Mattie enjoyed window shopping, sewing, and reading the bible daily.

Those who preceded Mattie in death were her mother Arttie Lee Callins, father Jerry Callins, husband Johnnie Hampton, son Lonnie Hampton, and 13 of her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Larry, Garry, Michael, Johnnie, Verbal, Marvin, Derrick, Danny, Anita, LaTonya all of Los Angeles, and Donnal Swain of Arizona; a sister Betty Tynes, and brother-in-law Alvin Tynes, her granddaughter Celene Shanaw Hampton, an extraordinary niece, DeLois Mendoza Hampton, special friends Donna Jones, and Mrs. Poke, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
