L.V. Barton was born January 15, 1926, to the union of Macio and Josephine Barton in Wetumka, Oklahoma. He was one of five children born to this union. He attended Wisner Chapel School located in Wetumka, Oklahoma. His religious experience was with New Hope Baptist Church located in his hometown. He later moved to Detroit and joined a Gospel group.

Upon moving to California, L.V. worked for multiple companies in many capacities and later gained employment with the City of Los Angeles, which is where he worked until retirement. He also became an entrepreneur, owning his own cleaning business for many years.

L.V. loved many types of sports, especially baseball. His passion also involved entertaining with family and friends, preparing spicy dishes such as his award-winning gumbo and occasional trips to Las Vegas. In 1989, L.V. found and married his beautiful wife, Alma Lee. He loved her dearly and took care of her the best he could until his health failed him. They shared common interests such as family gatherings, weekend road trips, and great food.

L.V. was a private soul with respect for everyone he met. He was a jokester yet serious about life. He believed in taking care of business and personal affairs.

Those who preceded L.V. in death were his parents Macio and Josephine Barton, sister Ona Mae Carson, brother Johnny Lee Barton, stepfather Adron Staffer, grandparents: Wiley and Gertrude Edwards, Henry and Susie Barton; and stepdaughter Vonsie Black.

Those left to cherish his memories are wife Alma Lee Barton, son Derard Barton Sr., stepson James Black, Jr., nephew Ray Rhone, Jr., granddaughters: Chenille Barton, Deronica Barton, and Sharonda Barton; grandsons: Brian Derard Jr., and Isaiah Barton; daughter-in-law Malisia Barton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
