Arthur LeEarl Alston, who became affectionately known as âAlâ was born June 13, 1927, in Conway, South Carolina and was the second child of Arthur Francis Alston and Ruth Spain. His older sister Margaret preceded him in death.

Al as a young man left Conway and was raised and schooled in New York City. Al enlisted into the United States Navy at seventeen years of age serving 6 years while attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He then left the Navy and joined the United States Air Force, where he then achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged in 1953. Upon  completing his military duties in 1953, he struck out west and moved to Los Angeles, California. It was there and at that time that he met Helen Theresa Stelly. They were married at Mother of Sorrow Catholic Church on July 28, 1956. The Alstons later moved to Ascension Parish, and soon began their family.

Al and Helen weâre blessed with five children: Bruce, Kurt, Scott, Debra and Dale. His son Dale preceded him in death. In 1963 the family moved to their current residence in Saint Frances Cabrini Parish!

As a father and husband Al enjoyed many activities with his family. Target shooting, fishing and camping were some of the activities that he frequently participated in. Al has always believed in commitment. On July 28, 2006, Helen and Al quietly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
