James Wilkins was born in January 1, 1925 to Arthur and Carrie Wilkins in Little Rock, Arkansas, James accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of his Grandmother, a church she started with a few friends and family member in Sweet Home, Arkansas. After the death of his Grandmother, he joined New Hope Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas and resided the for many years singing in the Choir and with the South Land Singers of Little Rock.

He received his education in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Little Rock Elementary and graduated from Dunbar Jr. College. James and his family were musically inclined. After moving to Los Angeles in 1962, he joined Israel Baptist Church and served there until he met his wife, Odessa.

Odessa was a member of Friendship Primitive Church. James decided to join Friendship under the leadership of the late Elder J.M. Jenkins. James was a faithful member, singing in both the Senior Choir and the Men Chorus. Later he served as deacon, church treasurer and overseer of the G.W. Curls Choir.

James also sung with Big John McNeal and the Ohio Wonders. James enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and traveling. James also enjoyed working on tvâ��s and radios.

James leaves to cherish his memory, his lovely wife Odessa of 52 years, 2 children, son Tony Wilkins (Sherry), daughter Janet Brown (Carl), 1 grandson T.J. Wilkins, 2 granddauthers, Kalisha and Shante, 1 great grandson, Mason, 4 godchildren Le Shell, Charles, Kay la, and Dana, a longtime friend , Mother Pauline Curls and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
