In Loving Memory of Susie Watkins

July 6, 1916 - February 11, 2020

On July 6, 1916, in, Fayette, Mississippi Roger Smith, and Ellen Banks gave birth to a bouncing baby girl Susie Smith.

She was educated in the public schools of Jefferson County, Mississippi where she grew up with her 3 siblings.

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and united with the Mt. Israel Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Henry (Grooning) Smith.

Looking for a better way of life around the age of 21, she migrated to Los Angeles, California.

She met and married Benjamin Watkins who preceded her in death. Later, she had 3 children, Peter Williams, Pearl Williams, and James Williams.

Susie worked as a Domestic Worker for many years to help support her family.

She was a God, fearing woman, who attended church regularly until her health declined. She had a few hobbies, she loved to cook, sew and watch game shows.

On the morning of February 11, 2020, Susie is better known as "Big Susie." peacefully went home to join our Creator after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roger Smith and Ellen Banks, one son Peter Williams, one sister Corene Smith and one grandson James Curtis.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son James Turner Williams Sr., one daughter Pearl Williams, seven grandchildren: Valerie, Tonya, Paulette, Ebony, James Jr., Jermain, and Jamal Williams; a wonderful caregiver LaJoy Searcy, a sister Rosalee Evans of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a special nephew Garfield "Peter" Banks, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
