Margaret Elizabeth Meekins was born December 28, 1950, in Tyler, Texas,
to the late Margaret Houston. Margaret became known as "Cookie."
At the age of seven, Cookie moved to Los Angeles, CA. She was educated in the Los Angeles Unified School District, attending 20th Street Elementary School, Carver Junior High School, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.
Cookie worked as a Counselor at Central City Bricks Kicks between 1976- 1979. She attended WLCAC, Rosston College, Watts Skill Center, and WEPT, where she received certificates in Business and Electronics.
In the early 90's, Cookie did security work and groomed dogs. From 1993 to 2010 Cookie became the caregiver of her grandmother, "Madear" taking full responsibility for her wellbeing.
Cookie was active in her community neighborhood watch, as Sergeant of Arms for 15 years. Cookie accepted Christ and was baptized as a member of Full Gospel Baptist Church under Reverend Hitchens and Reverend Higgins until Pastor Payne took leadership. She served as an Usher for 25 plus years.
Cookie was truly one of a kind and loved to speak her mind. She was kind, friendly, wise, lovable funny and would let you know you were in violation. One of her favorite pastimes was playing dominoes and talking mess with her friends and family. She also liked to sit outside her apartment complex and talk to every one that passed by in the neighborhood.
In June of 2019 her health began to fail, she remained in good spirits until her transition on November 21, 2019. Cookie was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Houston, and grandmother Elizabeth Meekins.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters: Catherine Johnson "Renee," and Tieiesha K. O'Neal; son John R. Johnson Jr., a sister Brenda Ann Meekins, grandchildren: Lachelle Johnson, Jaonte Johnson, Tonye Nyeche, Tylan Miller, RhaiāN Killpatrick and Janelle Johnson; great-grandchildren: David Rouzan Sr., Cameron Rouzan, and Taneah Forbes.
