In Loving Memory of Gilbert Clarkson

August 23, 1928 - October 12, 2019

Gilbert Leigh Clarkson was born to Zenobia Smitha Clarkson and Marshall Levert Clarkson "Levert" in Chicago, IL, on August 23, 1929, and passed away on October 12, 2019, in Granada Hills CA. He was 92 years young.

Gilbert served in the Army for 3 years as an Ammunition Supply Specialist. He served in the Korean War, where he received a medal with 4 service bars. After that, he served in Germany, where he received another medal. His highest rank was Corporal. He received an honorable discharge in 1953.

Gilbert graduated from Metropolitan College and attended several schools for Law Enforcement, whereby he spent the majority of his life in Law Enforcement. He worked at USC Medical Center for 32 years and retired as Chief of Security. He then worked at the Getty Museum as Chief of Security for another 16 years where he retired for the second time.

Gilbert and his late wife Dorothy Moore Clarkson raised 3 boys. Dorothy passed in 2004, and they will now rest together forever at Inglewood Park Cemetery. Gilbert was a loving father who always tried his best to tend to the needs of each of his sons. He loved sports with boxing and football, being among his favorites. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and exercise. He was very kindhearted in so many ways that people who knew him knew that Gilbert would go out of his way to help in any way he could. Most of all, Dad loved his family, and those family values were always there when any of us needed him!

Those who preceded him in death were his parents: Zenobia Clarkson, and Marshall Levert Clarkson, wife Dorothy Clarkson, and previous wife Martha Clarkson, and his brother Levert Marshall Clarkson "Bert."

Gilbert is survived by his children: Wendall (Sally) Clarkson, Maynard (Vesta) Clarkson, and Rodney Clarkson; as a brother he is survived by a sister Rene Clarkson Kindred, and brother Don (Pearl) Clarkson, sister-in-law Joyce Townsend; aunt and uncle Mary and Abraham Huffman; as uncle Gilbert, we must recognize his many nieces and nephews for they are our family's future. He also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
