In Loving Memory of Levi Canady
December 19, 1937 - September 22, 2019
Levi Canady affectionately known as "The Candy Man," was a
and father. On December 19, 1937, Levi was born to Elbert Candy
Malendy "Big Momma" Byers in Hattiesville, Arkansas. He was the
thirteen children: Willie, Ollie Mae, Seletha, Denver, Serviner,
Shelton, Jerry, Roscoe, Michael, and Glenn.
As a young man, he became employed as a machinist for General
Kansas City, Missouri. In 1966 he transferred to Los Angeles,
plant, where he worked until his retirement.
Levi enjoyed horse races, playing cards and dominoes with
friends and just
having a great time. He had a laugh that was very infectious.
laughed, everybody around him would laugh just off of his laugh.
Levi was a man who truly loved everybody, and he wanted to make
everybody knew he loved them. He would always ask the question, "Who
loves you, baby?" and he would expect you to give a list of
names of people
who loved you, all to make sure you knew his name needed to be
on that list
too. When asked the "Who loves you" question, his grandchildren
known to answer, my mother, my father, my sister, my brother, my
and uncles, my cousins and Poppie Levi.
Levi was a devout Christian man who served the Lord with
served in many areas. He was a Deacon, he was a Sunday School
during many summer months, he would handle various maintenance
his home church.
On Sunday, September 22, 2019, peacefully in his sleep, Levi
went home to
be with the Lord.
Levi was preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Big Momma,
Willie, Seletha, Dewitt, and Joseph; his wife, Debra and his
He leaves to cherish his many memories 6 brothers: Denver,
Roscoe, Michael, and Glenn, 2 sisters: Ollie Mae, and Serviner;
wife Carolyn, 4 children: Derrick, Derryl, Tina, and Tyesa and
2 stepchildren: Donotus, and Donare; 8 grandchildren: Joi,
Danielle, Charles, Dijon, Trinity, Perry Jr., and Perris, 5
Saundra, Zahkari, Charley, Taliyah, and Parker. He also leaves a
host of nieces,
cousins, other relatives, and friends.
