In Loving Memory of Shirley Jean Hamilton Burton
October 11, 1946 - August 23, 2019
Shirley Jean Smith was born October 11, 1946, in Terry, Mississippi to the late Mary Jones and Columbus Smith. She attended Perryman Elementary and Summary Hill High School. At an early age, she received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the Pilgrim M.B.C.
In the mid-'60s, Shirley moved to Los Angeles, California, where she resided until her death. Upon moving to LA, she joined the Mt. Olive MBC under the leadership of Reverend A. Moten. One of her gifts was using her angelic voice singing in the church choir. Shirley's journey of fellowship lead her to join Temple of Deliverance under the leadership of the late Reverend Oscar Burton.
Shirley being a twin (Gene) along with her 6 other siblings were raised in Terry, Mississippi. She loved family dearly and considered her relationship with them to be extremely important. She believed and supported all of their endeavors. To her nieces and nephews, she was the greatest aunt. To her siblings, she was a loving and caring sister.
Shirley was employed at Ducommun Aerostructures in Gardena, CA. She was a team player and received many promotions during her 42 years of service. Her hobbies included bowling; playing cards and you couldn't beat her dancing. Shirley always had a joyous and happy personality and was the life of the party.
On August 23rd, Shirley made her transition from this life of uncertainty into everlasting peace of joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Gene, Sam, Walter, Ernest, and Joe Lee all of Terry, Mississippi.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, sisters: Anner Smith of Los Angeles, CA and Pauline Kendrick (James) of Terry, Mississippi, sisters-inlaw: Mamie Gilkey, Deloris McGhee, Marie Boulden, Dorothene Jones, Clexell Bell, Juanita Thornton, Eva Allison, Joyce Hamilton, Viola and Alice of Kansas, Christine Jones of Mississippi, and Lou Ella McGhee of California; brothers-in-law: Harold Hamilton, Charles Hamilton (Mildred), Marion Hamilton, Clarence Hamilton (Elaine), and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends.
