In Loving Memory of Azierene Darden

February 3, 1938 - August 30, 2019

Azierene Darden was born on February 3, 1938, in Magnolia, Arkansas, and passed August 30, 2019, in Carson, California. She is the 5th child of 11 born to Elijah and Pinkie K. Robinson. She attended and graduated from James Madison High School, where her love for speed evolved into a distinguished athlete and track star. At an early age, Azierene began using her musical instrument to sing praises to the Lord.  She never stopped singing until her physical body could no longer produce a note or chord - and even then - she would "HUM" in-tune.

Azierene accepted Christ as her personal Savior and first baptized at the Midway Baptist Church. As Azierene studied and grew to know Christ better, she was re-baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist faith and remained a faithful member of the Compton Community S.D.A. Church.

Azierene was married to Head-Deacon, Clifford Darden, whom the church lovingly called "Papa D" - for 36 years. This union parented five (5) children: Murray D. Whitaker, Gwen Stewart, Clifford L. Darden, Belinda K. Franklin, and Alexander Darden.

Azierene held multiple career titles throughout her life to include, but not limited to; a Teacher's Aide at the Pioneer School, Substitute Teacher at the Los Angeles Union SDA Academy, or Health Food Store Customer Relations Rep., but the most impressive and important were her roles as Domestic Engineer (Stay-at-Home Mom) and Wife - keeping the family unit ‚grounded‚ and living in Christ.

Azierene enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening, sports, and above all - singing. She lived a life of service and selflessness. Whether it be saving the neighbors son by applying a life-saving tourniquet, singing on program in church, feeding the poor on Skid Row, teaching the Sabbath School lesson, or helping a stranger in need, we know that each deed has earned her multiple stars in her crown upon Christ return.

Azierene is survived by her three children: Gwen Stewart, Clifford L.Darden, and Alexander Darden; her sisters: Hazel Talley, and Virginia Williams; grandchildren: James L. Stewart III, Jameca R. Stewart-Angulo,Clifford L. Darden, Jr., Danielle L. Franklin, and Alexander Darden, Jr.; great-grandchildren: James L. Stewart IV, Jamela Stewart, Jada Stewart, and Aaliyah I. Angulo; she is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends which includes her extended Church family.
