In Loving Memory of Penelope Calloway

October 6, 1939 - June 21, 2019

Penelope H. Calloway was born October 6, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA to Cornelius Harris and Evelyn Posey; she was the 2nd of 6 children.

Penelope received her education at Penn Hills in Pittsburg, PA. After moving to California, she furthered her education attending El Camino College, Torrance, CA. Penelope accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She attended Calvary Chapel South Bay for 8 years under the leadership of Pastor Jeff Gill.

Penelope met Jesse C. Calloway Jr., and they eventually united in Holy Matrimony; born to this union were Tonia, Jesse III, Jon, and Cassandra. Penelope and Jesse shared 16 years of marriage.

Penelope worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, for 37 years as a Medi-Cal Supervisor.

Penelope became known as ‚Ms. Penny‚ by many, and the family called her ‚GiGi,‚ after her nephew Jesse IV began calling her ‚Gangsta Granny,‚ which she thought was funny but wasn‚t sure if it was appropriate, so he started calling her ‚GiGi‚ for short.

Penelope enjoyed watching TV, writing, reading, family gatherings, and sports; she loved to crochet, and she was a loving person, kind, friendly, feisty, humble, and had a good sense of humor. She was also known to be giving and helpful to others. GiGi was all about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Anyone who knew our family knew Gigi's love for the Pittsburgh Steelers; some of her favorite players were Franco Harris, Mean Joe Green, Hines Ward, and Jerome Bettis.

Penelope went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2019, and to join those who preceded her in death including her mother Evelyn Posey, brother Cornelius ‚Billy‚ Harris, uncle Terah Brown, and aunt, Parthenia Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memories daughters: Tonia Calloway Smith, and Cassandra Calloway; sons: Jesse Calloway III, and Jon Calloway; siblings: Simone Spaulding Cephas (Joseph Saunders), Fredrick Harris (Rosetta), Teranell Kirksey (Nelson), and Georgette Burnham (Earl); grandchildren: Danielle Porter, Natasha Calloway, Robin (Chanae) Garrett, Jesse Calloway IV, Ryann Hardaway, Mersedees Calloway, Jasmin Calloway, Tyler Smith, Amber Smith, Caitlyn Warren, Jordan Kloepfel, and Joshua Aponte; great-grandchildren: Devinn Hardaway, Cy'Rai Baker, LaFaette Garrnett Jr., Terrence Bingham, Derien Hardaway, Deja Hardaway, Anias O., Terron Bingham, and Ayron Bingham. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
