In Loving Memory of Roberta Stokes Ward

May 23, 1944 - May 24, 2019

On May 23, 1944, in Los Angeles, California a baby girl was born to the proud parents of Annie Bell and Felton Stokes Sr., they named her Roberta Stokes. Roberta was the first of five children.

Roberta attended school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She accepted Christ at an early age under the late Pastor Eddie Smith and from Star MBC in Los Angeles. She later joined Atherton Baptist Church in Hawthorne, California, fellowshipping under Pastor Larry Weaver where she served until she went to be with the one that set her free, our Lord and Savior.

Living across the street from where Roberta lived was Thomas Ward.  They met and soon became sweethearts. Some would like to think because her mom would run him away, it made Thomas more persistent; later they were united in Holy Matrimony and to that union 2 children were born, and a daughter gained by marriage, Thelma Robinson. Roberta and Thomas shared 50 years of marriage.

Roberta worked for Robert Shaw Machinery for over 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and family gatherings.

Roberta was preceded in death by sons: Lloyd Kirk, and Ezna Kirk; her father Felton Stokes, sister Rosetta Noles, brother Felton Stokes, Jr.,and grandparents Effie and Elijah Turner.

She leaves to cherish her memories husband Thomas Ward of Gardena, CA, daughter Thelma Robinson of Hawthorne, CA, mother Annie Bell Stokes of Hawthorne, CA, siblings: Lorena Stokes (Leon) Walker of Inglewood, CA, and Willie Stokes of Stockton, CA; an uncle Monroe Turner, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
