In Loving Memory of Jesse J. Featherstone

July 26, 1926 - May 26, 2019

Jesse Jerome Featherstone was born in Indianola, Mississippi to James and Madie (Allen) Featherstone. He was the seventh of ten children born into this union.  Jesse accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.

After high school, Jesse enlisted in the United States Navy and served in World War II, where he was stationed in Okinawa and the South Pacific. After receiving Honorable Discharge, Jesse attended Alcorn A & M University in Mississippi, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree, and thereafter attended and graduated from the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, earning a Doctoral Degree in Veterinary Medicine. His scholastic accomplishments eventually brought his brilliant mind to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he was employed in Vermont and Indiana, the latter state in which Jesse officially earned his Veterinary license.

Jesse eventually moved to Los Angeles, California and met Georgia Wheatley.  After marriage, to this union was born two sons, Mark Jerome Featherstone and David Allen Featherstone. While in Los Angeles, he attended and joined Trinity Baptist Church where he served faithfully in many capacities, including the Board of Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, member of the Men's Chorus, Bonita Franklin Bible Class, Wednesday Morning Prayer and Sharing, and Lead Instructor of the popular Mid-Morning Bible Study. Jesse was very well known for his extensive knowledge of the Holy Bible, and in 1990 earned a Certificate in External Studies from the Moody Bible Institute. Jesse was also President for five years of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Alcorn University Alumni, and a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc.

Jesse was a very knowledgeable veterinarian, and was dedicated to his career.  Among the clinics in which he worked was Animal Medical Center in Compton and Los Angeles, and in between, he established Mid-Delta Animal Clinic in Indianola, Mississippi.

He loved and appreciated sports, especially football. He was always known to find a good game to watch whenever he took a break from his busy days.

Jesse leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Georgia Wheatley Featherstone, his sons Mark and David, his brother Arthur Featherstone of Michigan, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
