In Loving Memory of Easter J. Martin
June 26, 1928 - March 13, 2019
Easter was born Easter Jane Price to Goldsmith and Ethel Price on June 26, 1928. She married Johnnie Magee at age 17, and they produced six children from that union.
As head of the household, the father thought it best to relocate the family to Southern California. As a result in 1956, they moved to Long Beach, CA; unfortunately, he unexpectedly succumbed to an early death at age 36 just 3 years later.
Easter struggled and worked two jobs to keep her six children clothed and fed. In 1962, she met and married Julius Martin. From their union, one child was born, Julius Martin II. Both have preceded her in death.
Sister Martin, as she was known in her church community, was a prayer warrior for Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ. Her ministry was born out of her passion for prayer. Her dedication being unshakable, she was there everyday at Noon-Day Prayer even if no one else showed up. Her ministry also included a seat on the Church Board of Trustees, a member of the Usher Board and financial involvement in several of the church's assets. Another part of her ministry was to feed the poor and visit the shut-ins; she was determined to accommodate as many people in need as possible. Her Sunday mornings also began with making sure all the young children had snacks before Sunday services began.
At home, amongst her family, she was the notorious cook, with the greenest thumb ever. Planting and harvesting most of what she cooked; she seldom had to purchase from the market. She could grow just about anything.
Today we celebrate a long and fruitful life of 90 years. Sister Martin was an unselfish person who put the needs of others before her own. She saw that consistently as her assignment from the Creator. Now she gets to continue that service in her eternity.
Easter was preceded in death by sons: Julius C. Martin II, Johnnie L. Magee, and Charles E. Magee; siblings: Willie Price, L.C. Price, Fred Price, Jonah Mae Riley, Rutha Lee Fairley, and James Price.
