In Loving Memory of Shirley M. Porter

June 26, 1933 - November 11, 2018

Shirley Porter was born June 26, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio to Arthur Fox and Audrey Fox. She was the 2nd of 3 children. Shirley graduated from Glenville High School, Cleveland, Ohio in 1952.

Shirley met Lorenzo Porter through a mutual friend, and they were married in Cleveland in 1956. Shortly after, they moved to Los Angeles, California. To this union, three children were born: Robin Sadler, Brian Porter, and Terryl Porter.

She was in the first graduating class of California State University Dominguez Hills. She received a BA degree in Urban Studies in 1976, and later pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Southern California and Fuller Seminary. Shirley taught at a Private Christian School and was also a teacher's assistant with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Shirley was a faithful member of the Church of the Redeemer for 57 years. She sang in the choir, was a deaconess, and an elder. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, shopping, dancing, watching cooking, and traveling shows. She was very outgoing and loved to talk. She was kind and loved to give to others. She could be feisty and often used expressions like  "Wild 'n Out" and "don't take no wooden nickels," or "you're as fine as wine in the summertime."

Shirley was preceded in death by her primary family including Arthur Fox, Sr., father, Audrey Fox, mother, Arthur Fox, Jr, brother, and Harold Fox, brother.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband: Lorenzo C. Porter, Robin Sadler, daughter, Brian Porter, son, Terryl Porter, son. Michelle Porter, granddaughter, Kyle Porter, grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
