Odessa Fincher was the seventh of seven children born to Lonnie and Jaretta Burris on May 22, 1932, in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Odessa was educated in the public school system in York County. While living in Rock Hill, South Carolina Odessa gave birth to two sons, Cleavland Burris and Gary Lee Burris.
She then decided that she wanted to move to New York City. While in New York City she met Nesbit Fincher, and they were married. From this union, Andre, Wendy, and Jaretta were born. They lived in Laurelton, New York until her husband retired from Consolidated Edison. After retiring the family moved to Los Angeles, California. While living in Los Angeles, Odessa became a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, a few years later Odessa decided to change fellowship and united with First Church of God in Christ. Odessa was a committed member and served as an Usher.
Odessa furthered her education by attending Nursing School, and after receiving her certification, she worked for various clients throughout the years.
Odessa was preceded in death by her husband, Nesbit Fincher, five brothers: Lonnie Jr., Albright, Brown, Paul Jr., and John; and a sister, Nancy Mae.
After a long battle of sickness, she departed this life on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory three loving sons: Cleavland, Gary Lee, and Andre; two loving daughters: Wendy, and Jaretta; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
