In Loving Memory of Pearl V. Scoggins

May 24, 1926 - October 11, 2018

Pearl Vessa Ray was born May 24, 1926, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the eldest of 2 daughters. Pearl accepted Christ at a young age.

Pearl grew up in Sedalia, Missouri and later moved back to Little Rock, Arkansas where she met and married Baxter Masco Scoggins. To this union, six children were born.

Pearl served as a Sunday School teacher and as an Usher at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church while in Little Rock.

The family moved to Los Angeles, California in late 1959. Pearl worked various jobs before accepting a position with the United States Postal Service where she retired in 1988.

Pearl joined Bethel AME Church on April 24, 1977, under the leadership of Reverend Jerry W. Ford. She was a member of the Phoebe Bush Usher Board, and she also enjoyed her membership in The Grandparent's Club.

Pearl was known to many as "Mama Pearl." She was a foster grandmother at Menlo Avenue School and a faithful neighbor and friend. Pearl loved her family, food, fellowship, and good old fashion fun.

On Thursday, October 11, 2018, God called his faithful servant home to rest.  Preceding her in death are her parents, her sister, her eldest son, Roy Donnell, and one grandson, Roy Wade.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters: Ina, Sharon, Norma (Charles), and Lynnette; one son, Wendell (Ann); eleven, grandchildren: Angela (John), Derrlyn, Delmetrius, Gerald, Tamara, Kelly, Ambra, Lydell, Anthony, Tyson, and Asia; twelve great-grandchildren: Dominique, Kevin, Jarrell, Anthony, Asia, Sherise, Shayana, Randi, Samuel, Kaven, Arielle, and Journee; and one great-great granddaughter, Averi. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
