In Loving Memory of William Robert Edwards

November 2, 1935 - August 20, 2018

William Robert Edwards was born in Freeport, TX on November 2, 1935; he was the eldest son of Austin "Pop" Edwards Sr. and Phillis "Ora Mae" Edwards. William became known as "Billy" he grew up with his parents and younger brother Austin "Bubba" Edwards.

Billy obtained his early education in Jones Creek and Freeport, TX and started Lanier High School. The Edwards family relocated to California where Billy enrolled in Fremont High School. In 1953, Billy and a friend registered for the draft and enlisted in the US Army. Before leaving for Fort Ord in Monterey, CA Billy met and dated the woman who would later capture his heart eternally.

Upon completion of basic training Billy was stationed in Washington, and then Korea serving with the 73rd Tank Battalion. On November 27, 1956, Billy received an honorable discharge from the Army, returning to Fort Ord in California.

In 1956 Billy met Doris Toomer, over the next year Billy grew to love Doris and her son Dale. In 1957 Billy and Doris married, and to this union, they were blessed with the birth of their beautiful princess; LaDreana Edwards. Sadly a few years later the marriage ended, but Billy kept close contact with his children Dale and Dreana.

In the years to come, Billy would father a son Cordell and marry both Wilma Washington and Velma Daniels; both marriages ended in divorce with no children.

Billy worked in the aeronautics industry for most of his life, working on planes and helicopters. But also spent a few years working on automobiles and submarines.

In 1999, Billy was reunited with Velma Freddie, the young lady he met before leaving for the Army in 1953. Capturing his heart again, they both retired and shared a home together. Adding to the family, they adopted and loved two puppies; Dusty & Diva. Billy enjoyed watching Western movies, fishing, rabbit hunting, and golfing with his buddies. Most of all Billy enjoyed spending time with his first love Velma.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his baby girl Dreana, son: Cordell, Dale and Phillip; grandsons Devion, D"Andre, Destyn and Devon; granddaughter, Karia; great-grandchildren, Deaundra Jr., and Di"Era Jhene; brothers, Austin "Jr." and Ozell "Dion;" sisters-in-law Denise, Tierney, and Alice Jean; daughters in his heart, Vernice, Shelley, DeLisa and Andria; granddaughter in his heart, Antinett, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Dusty.
