In Loving Memory of Claudia Simmons

November 7, 1943 - July 7, 2018

On November 7, 1943, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, a beautiful baby girl with sparkling brown eyes named Claudia Claress Canty was born. Claudia, a twin, was the sixth daughter of nine children born to John and Christina Canty.

Claudia attended Lower Training Elementary School and graduated from Lowery High School. She went on to attend Southern University before she decided to move to California, in 1965. She later attended Los Angeles Trade Technical College where she received her AA Degree.

It was here in Los Angeles, California, where she met and married Donald Simmons Sr., to that union two sons were born, Donald Simmons II, and Omari John Simmons.

Claudia was a Born-again Christian. She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church, and later joined Morris Memorial MBC, her final Christian home.

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, Claudia departed this life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Simmons Sr., father, John Canty, mother, Christina Canty, brothers: John Canty Jr., and Melvin Canty; sisters: Ethel M. Powell, Alice C. Allen, Helen Gloria Moten, and twin Claudette C. Miller.

Claudia, a mother, a sister, an aunt, and dear friend, leaves to cherish her memories: her two sons, Donald Simmons II (Justice), and Omari John Simmons, two sisters, Eva M. Canty Harris of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Victoria Canty Johnson (Felton Sr.) of Los Angeles, California, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and loved ones.
