Versia Lee Edwards was born May 29, 1935, in Willis, Texas to John Rose and Alice Mae Dargain, she was 1st of 2 children.
Versia received her education in Texas. As a teen Versia volunteered as a nurses helper. After graduating High School she attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas and received a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Versia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 30 years under the leadership of Reverend Byrd and Pastor McKnight.
While at Texas College she met Henry Edwards. They were united in Holy Matrimony. Both became teachers right out of College. Henry and Versia were blessed with 5 girls.
Versia was employed by West Athens Elementary, she was a Teacher's Assistant and Playground Director. She was also a member of the PTA. She retired after 30 years of service.
Versia loved her family, dancing, cooking, sewing, and helping others. Ms. Edwards was very classy, a devoted wife, mother, and woman of God. She was the matriarch of her family and in her community. Without any hesitation, she would help others, especially children. She was loving, kind, caring, hard-working and had a friendly and outgoing personality. Her smile would light up any room, she was a beautiful person inside and outside.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Edith Edwards, Henerietth Edwards, LaWanda Edwards, Cassandra Edwards, and Allyce J. Edwards; brother James Dargain, grandchildren: Christina Brewer, Stephanie Ford, Jasmine T. Morris and her only grandson, L.J. Lauron Williams, Jr.; she also leaves a host of nieces nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
