In Loving Memory of Sylvester Raymond Mathis, Sr.

November 18, 1925 - February 14, 2018

Sylvester Raymond Mathis Sr. was born November 19, 1925, in Arkansas, Kansas to Monroe Mathis and Ida Mathis, he was the 4th of the four children.

Sylvester received his education in the Wichita, Kansas School System. He enjoyed playing baseball.

Sylvester accepted Christ at an early age. He united with West Angeles Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.

Sylvester was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II. Sylvester met Josephine Milow, and they were united in Holy Matrimony; to this union, five children were born: Carolyn, Kathy, Sylvester Jr., Donald, and Ronald. Sylvester and Josephine shared 68 years of marriage.

Sylvester was self-employed as a private Contractor. He loved his family, fishing and reading the Bible. He was lovable, friendly and had a great sense of humor. Sylvester was a very giving and a modest man. 

Those who preceded him in death were his wife, Josephine Mathis and children, Carolyn Mathis, and Ronald E. Mathis. He leaves to cherish his memories children: Kathy Mathis Houston, Sylvester Mathis Jr., and Donald D. Mathis; grandchildren: Eric Jr., Ronald Jr., Donald Jr., Sylvester III, Antwon, Anthony, Romalis, and Emanuel; greatgrandchildren: Austin, Josiah and Eli Mathis, special friends: Sheila Langley, Hadi Adams, and Zelda Johnson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
