In Loving Memory of Nancy Jean Tyler

August 9, 1952 - December 21, 2017

Nancy Jean Tyler was born August 9, 1952, in Belzoni, Mississippi to Thelma Viola Tyler and Lee Will Tyler. Nancy was the last of 10 children. At the age of three (1955) Jeanie, her mother and all of her siblings moved to Santa Monica, California. Nancy became affectionately known as "Jeanie" to her family and friends.

Jeanie attended Will Rogers Elementary School. In 1963, shortly after graduating from Will Rogers Elementary School, she moved to Venice, California where she attended Mark Twain Jr. High. She loved playing baseball with her sister.

Jeanie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Venice under Bishop E. L. Holmes. She was well known throughout the community as well as the Church. At a young age accepted Christ and was baptized; she gave her life to the Lord.

In the mid-sixties Jeanie met Howard Gordon Sr. During that union, in 1968, Jeanie gave birth to her only child Howard Gordon Jr.

In the late seventies, Jeanie started working for Jack LaLanne as a fitness instructor. After seven years of working in fitness, Jeanie started working for Santa Monica Hospital as a housekeeper. Jeanie worked eleven years as a housekeeper before she retired in 1996.

In 2001, the untimely death of her son, Howard Gordon Jr. was a shock to her and the family.

Jeanie loved family unconditionally; she loved family gatherings, playing cards, Sunday dinners, cooking and seeing the family together. Jeanie had an unforgettable smile, an enormous heart, and a warm spirit.

In 2012 Jeanie met her soul mate, Gene Haggerty. In 2013 Jeanie and Gene started a union and moved to Lancaster where she remained for the rest of her days. Jeanie remained faithful to the Lord. Jeanie and Gene united with Good Success Ministry, in Lancaster, California and attended Church every Sunday.

December 21, 2017, God called one of his Angels home to be with her loved ones who preceded her in death, her son, Howard Gordon Jr., parents, Lee Will Tyler and Thelma V. Tyler; brothers: Eddie Tyler, Milton Tyler, and Hilbert Tyler; sisters: Lillie M. Thornton, Annie Tyler, Anna M. Smith, and Hilda Faye Tyler.

Jeanie leaves to cherish her memories siblings: Robert Tyler (Dorothy) of Moreno Valley, CA; Mary McAdoo of Venice, CA; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Thornton of Inglewood, CA; three godchildren: Tiara Burton, of Los Angeles, Kayla Clark of Inglewood, CA, and Antwon Jamar of Inglewood, CA. Jeanie also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
